THE GREEN SHOW: Brenda May

I was lucky enough to be invited to put in a very late proposal to Brenda May Gallery in the Dank Street complex for a group show called – The Green Show.

I have been working at a company called Emergent Designs : www.emergentdesigns.com.au – which has given me access to all sorts of processes, materials and techniques all with a staff discount!

Emergent has done acrylic face mounting for a while but now have expanded into thick acrylic photo blocks in 20 and 30mm.

I saw a client with some duraclear prints that she was getting mounted onto glass and I thought it would be a great thing to explore.

I thought how I could tie my art practice of mapping and notation into a subject like that and then I saw along Circular Quay a series of brass plaques that have been installed to delineate where the shoreline was in 1788 and in 1841. As I researched this further I discovered that Bennelong point where the Opera House is situated was originally an island. This made me ponder what creates our boundaries and borders both natural and unnatural and how does environmental change affect their position.

So I looked at maps of environmental change – and made maps of my own environment and combined them into images that would work on a level as objects by themselves but also when grouped together would form a layered image – like stratas in the earth .

always the last minute

so all of jan i was working on another postcard series. This time i wrote about 150 postcards. I would write at least one every day, noting down what i saw, making my lists, sketching etc. These were then stamped in order, date stamped and then sent down to my fathers address in thirroul. i'm now trying to figure out the box that they are going to be contained in. in the proposal to brenda may I wrote that i was going to do a wooden box...but now i think a cardboard box would be better...found this image of Dale hickey

full time work is exhausting

Its hard working......I am a wuss for work.....first day of week two and I'mm ready to hide under the covers and sleep the day away.
but...this isn't how it works, apparently.
So this is where I am working www.emergentdesigns.com.au which is at least a little related.

So on the horizon - BRENDA MAY GALLERY

they have a paper show that I was lucky enough to get accepted into.

I put in a work entitled 100 paces - i neglected to take a pic of it - but I am sure that it hasn't sold so will pop one up here when i get it back -

the gallery is great, I hadn't been there and saw that they were looking for works that were created in 2010 - it was the first proper drawing for the year. The idea was that i was to explore what was 100 steps from my door. A smaller version of syc travel

Hello 2010

so its a new year and I have a few things going on so i thought that i would start up the blog again to keep my thoughts in order.

Firstly I was lucky enough to score an internship to the NT for 10 weeks to work in an aboriginal arts community

Secondly I got accepted into the paper works show at Brenda May Gallery which is very exciting.

Third - alice and i have a show at xavier space

4th - a show with alice and vanya at Stairwell gallery

I'm currently in a show at ESP gallery in marrickville which was a great motivator to start the year off.

Will expand on the above at a later date.
